Heli skiing in the months of December and January simply don’t get the recognition they deserve!
The heli ski operators of British Columbia begin theirseason in the 1st or 2nd week of January however thereare a handful of heli operators that regularly run programs in December andJanuary. They are located in Northern British Columbia Canada. *Skeena Heliskiing * Last Frontier Heliskiing * White Wilderness Heliskiing*Northern Escape Heliskiing are the operators that take full advantage of Mother Nature's early bounty!
Being early winter, this part of the season is usually marked by colder, shorter days. But those days offer some of the lightest, fluffiest powder of the season, with deep snow bases in the trees and over glaciers. With snow already establishing a firm base, this time of year makes for deep turns and excellent tree skiing.
When I asked these operators “what makes guests return every season?” their answers were consistent!
Owner/Operator of Skeena Heliskiing “January is one of myfavorite times to ski. It’s very wintery, we ski lots in the trees, probably 70% trees and 30% in alpine in January. Historically we have good storms rolling through in January and get deep skiing. It’s in my opinion also the time when the light is the nicest”.
President of Northern Escape Heliskiing says it’s his favourite time of what he calls “The deep season, snow over your head, simply the deepest". 65% trees alpine 35% alpine when the days allow”.
Last Frontier Heliskiing says “January has some of the best quality tree skiing of the season with colder temps that make for light fluffy snow. It's also a bit less busy than other parts of the season.
White Wilderness Heliskiing says “January is the best time for deep snow and cold temperatures, which make the snow particularly powdery”.
Heli ski Holiday will not play favorites and will always so what is possible in the clients best interest while staying true to the heli ski operators of BC and Internationally.
